About Us
Preserving History. Honoring Legacy. Serving Community.
At Staytonville Cemetery Restoration & Maintenance Inc, we are dedicated to restoring, preserving, and maintaining historic cemeteries in and around the Staytonville area. As a nonprofit organization, our mission goes beyond simple upkeep—we strive to honor the lives and legacies of those who came before us, ensuring their stories are not forgotten and their resting places are treated with the dignity they deserve.
Our Story
Founded by a group of local citizens, descendants, and historians who recognized the urgent need to care for neglected burial grounds, Staytonville Cemetery Restoration & Maintenance Inc was born out of love for our shared heritage. What started as a grassroots effort quickly grew into a formal organization committed to preserving the cultural and historical significance of these sacred spaces.
Many of the cemeteries we care for date back generations and reflect the diverse history of our community—including veterans, pioneers, enslaved persons, and families whose contributions helped shape the region. Time, weather, and lack of resources had left many of these sites in disrepair. We stepped in to change that.
Our Work
We carry out our mission through:
-
Gravestone restoration and repair
-
Grounds maintenance and landscaping
-
Documentation and mapping of burial sites
-
Community clean-up events and volunteer engagement
-
Historical preservation education and advocacy
We also work closely with local genealogical societies, churches, schools, and community members to share the stories behind the names etched in stone.
Our Vision
We envision a future where every cemetery in Staytonville and the surrounding areas is preserved with care, recognized for its historical importance, and accessible to descendants, researchers, and the community at large.
How You Can Help
Our work relies on the generous support of volunteers, donors, and partners. Whether you’re interested in lending a hand at a clean-up day, donating to support restoration materials, or helping us uncover local history, there’s a place for you in our mission.
